Overview
The Virginia Department of Corrections Citizens’ Academy is a four-week program designed to allow community members to learn more about one of the largest and most complex public safety organizations in the Commonwealth.
The DOC Citizens’ Academy reflects the department’s commitment to increase transparency, strengthen community relationships and educate the public about the important work performed every day by correction professionals across the agency. This unique experience will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of correctional operations, rehabilitation programs, community supervision, leadership functions, and employee development initiatives.
Starting in Fall 2026, the program will be held on Wednesdays over four consecutive weeks. To ensure accessibility, academy locations may rotate among the regions with each offering.
